“Never accept the standard, always strive to excel and challenge oneself in relation to expectations and goals. When things get tough, remember the reasons why I chose a career as an Airline pilot.”
To allow myself to make mistakes and not beat myself up over them. Learn from your mistake and then also be quick to move on.
“Do work hard from the beginning and be well informed of all the opportunities out there. There are many schools and cadet programs, choose the one that best suits your needs.”
The advice that I would give myself back at the start of my Pilot training journey is that everyone’s journey to the flight deck is different and that there is no one single way of achieving the goal of becoming an airline Pilot – focus on yourself, planning your journey and realising your goal.
No matter how tough it gets just keep persevering. There will be times when you want to give up but keep working. It’s definitely worth it in the end.
I would tell myself not to worry about how long the journey is and how many different steps there are. Things will work out with the right attitude. To enjoy every moment of it as I develop as a person, and as a Pilot. Although I know in reality, we never stop learning and each time we get airborne, it is truly remarkable and a feeling like no other.
Don’t stress out and worry as much, just take your time to enjoy the journey and learning experience. There is no rush to get to the finish. You will not find everything easy but you will succeed and it will all be worth it in the end.
Even on the darkest of days, remember exactly why you are doing this. I found that it’s really important to be able to detach yourself from the studying especially, when things weren’t quite going to plan. Being able to step away and come back when you have a clear head will pay huge dividends in the long run. Just try not to let any of the setbacks dishearten you because there will undoubtedly be many.
Enjoy it. I have met some great people already through my learning and training and it has been a predominantly supportive and enjoyable environment to be in.
Don’t be stressed and remain calm during the whole thing. you will succeed in getting your dream job and the whole ‘stress before exams’ is unnecessary.
